The Nest: Group Parenting Program – Code of Conduct

Our Group Parenting Program is a vibrant mosaic of families, originating from all walks of life and from across the globe. This diversity is our program’s bedrock as it enriches our collective experience with a variety of perspectives.

To maintain a constructive and supportive environment, we’ve established guidelines that reflect the spirit of our community – designed not as a set of constraints but as a path to fostering a welcoming and inclusive space for all members.

General Guidelines:

  1. Be Open and Patient. Parenting paths vary and so do the ways we express ourselves. English may not be everyone’s first language; be mindful that word choices may differ. Prioritize understanding and kindness, and embrace Fred Roger’s wisdom: lead with vulnerability; meet with compassion.
  2. Be Welcoming. The Nest is a safe place for all parents and caregivers, irrespective of race, ethnicity, culture, national origin, color, immigration status, socioeconomic status, education, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, age, size, family status, political beliefs, religion, and mental or physical ability. We advocate for language that is inclusive and speaks to all (e.g., use ‘Parents/Caregivers’ rather than gender-specific terms).
  3. Be Respectful. Disagreements will happen, and they can be opportunities for growth. Engage in discussions on the merits of different viewpoints, not personal attacks. Constructive criticism is a gift – receive it with grace.

Addressing Harassment:

Harassment undermines the strength of our community and will not be tolerated. It includes, but is not limited to:

  • Offensive remarks about gender, sexual orientation, disability, mental health, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion.
  • Unwelcome comments on lifestyle choices and practices, such as parenting styles, health, and employment.
  • Deliberate misgendering or use of rejected names.
  • Physical or cyber threats.
  • Stalking or persistent following.
  • Unwanted sexual attention.
  • Continued communication after requests to stop.
  • Outing someone’s identity without consent.
  • Sharing group chat conversations publicly.
  • Joking about the above in all manners, including satirically or ironically.

If you experience or witness harassment, or have concerns, please contact us at info@imperfectparent.ca. Our team is committed to addressing issues swiftly and with the utmost sensitivity.

Violation of this code will be met with serious consideration. Should you be asked to halt any behavior not aligned with these guidelines, we expect immediate compliance. Our admins reserve the right to enforce necessary measures, including removal from the program, to preserve the integrity of our community. The decisions of our admins are final and will be made with confidentiality and respect for all involved.

For any inquiries or feedback regarding this policy, please reach out to info@imperfectparent.ca.

Together, let’s ensure The Nest remains a nurturing, supportive, and educational haven for every member of our parenting community.
